A Sanctuary of Hope

Welcome to Adam Sun Hope Sanctuary, your online sanctuary based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. We offer supportive services for isolated men and boys, guiding them towards connection and well-being. Join us as we create a community of growth and hope, one appointment at a time.
we love men and boys
My son was lost, alone and without hope. What he needed was a purpose, and a place in the community.
A Living Memorial in Vancouver
I am an artist and a resident of Vancouver for over 60 years. After losing my son Chandis Adam Strehlen to the toxic drug crisis, I created this sanctuary in his memory.
We offer compassionate, human-to-human peer support for isolated boys, men, and their caregivers — through listening, connection, and hope. No judgment. Just a safe place to be heard.
Every day, nearly five of our neighbours, friends, and children die from the unregulated drug crisis in BC. Adam was one of them.
We walk from False Creek to Vanier Park writing their names in soapstone so they are never forgotten. We are fighting for a permanent botanical sanctuary garden where these names can be carved in stone — not just traced in the rain.
Right now we are raising funds for Adam’s permanent memorial bench at Troll Beach (the off-leash dog beach at Hadden Park that Adam and his friends loved).

Our history
Adam Sun Hope Sanctuary began with a simple but urgent truth: too many men and boys in our community were suffering in silence.
Isolation, stigma, and the pressures of “being strong” were leaving people without the support they needed—sometimes with devastating consequences.
Our founder saw this firsthand through years of community involvement, witnessing friends, neighbours, and family members struggle alone. In response, a small group of volunteers came together with one shared goal: to create a place where men and boys could speak openly, receive help, and know they are not alone.
Starting as informal meet-ups and one-on-one conversations, the sanctuary’s work quickly grew. What began in living rooms and coffee shops has now become a registered non-profit offering structured programs, outreach, and resources for those facing mental health challenges, addiction recovery, grief, and everyday life pressures.
Every step of our journey has been guided by the belief that connection heals.
Today, we honour that history by continuing to reach out to those who need a safe space, a compassionate ear, and a community that cares.
